With minimal salt.There have definitely been some massive design changes:Tiers are gone, replaced with CPU based matchmaking.Money replaced with Robits, which can be made by recycling items you own.Gameplay pays out Crates instead of money, which contain random items.The tech tree was removed, and you have access to all weapons at any level (if you amass the funds to buy them, or luck out in a crate).Weapons now use "energy" which recharges over time.New Modules offering new combat altering abilities (Shield, Blink, Ghost and Energy Booster)New Weapons have been added at higher rarity. How excited I was when I found this game. There are 0 new players playing any of their games.Robocraft is a hard game to balance. godfuckingdammitI think they got in over their heads and instead of growing they sold out. The game failed because devs were afraid to be different.
Matches lasted a few minutes on average, and once you died you could leave the match and instantly queue again, giving you a never ending stream of enjoyment. I just can't come to see any logical reasoning for carrying the game's development in this direction.TL:DR- Why did the game take this path of development and what do you as a player see has improved/what is your opinion?I believe one of the main reasons is that the game was thriving because of the original concept.

Newer players will have a tougher time assembling the requisite parts to be creative and truly explore playstyles until later in the game.The game can still be fun, even as a new player.
I just can't come to see any benefit from the changes the developers have made over the years. I used to play Robocraft back when the game just came out in 2014 to about mid 2015.
I closed the game after a few minutes because I was so overwhelmed and couldn't find the list of items to upgrade with stars. I played this game upon release and loved the idea of a tier system and how you got rewarded for playing. They didn't even do the rip-off part correctly. I quit along with the majority of my crew after tiers were removed and crates were added.
Behold Freejam's the grand vision of Robocraft before it was executed by the player base. It seems that it went for a pay to win model and ditched the tier system now?
The way they could make more people interested is by adding more maps, weapons, movement types, game modes, shapes, and anything, basically.
Ok, so before you downvote this to pieces, please hear me out and not take this in the way of me bashing on the game- I'm not, I love this game and have loved it from the beginning.

I still haven't given up hope on the game, FJ has done some wonderful things in the past with this game, and I'm hoping they'll turn the game back to the free to play powerhouse that it used to be, but you would be naive to say that the game has gotten better over the years. I stopped playing for a bit to play a bunch of other new games and decided to see what was up. Some changes that have been were a necessity (removal of tiers) due to the declining player base or removal of megas. To the community I want to ask what is your opinion now of the game? Everything concerning the game Robocraft, from development, to balance, making … If you own the parts, it costs nothing to try out someone else's design.Notably though, the game is probably less "Pay to Win" than before. Yes, they have made a lot of improvements.

I remember coming out of a battle and buying a few blocks and going back in. In my opinion the things they shouldn't have done was BA, flattening, tech tree removal, tech point removal, pilot seat removal, Boss Battle removal, epic loot, Team orders (god that was terrible, glad it was undone fast) and the list goes on.I've been following robocraft since it was released on steam, and I fully agree with OP, everything that was good about the game is mostly gone. 9.4k members in the Robocraft community. They saw loot boxes and added as reward for the matches and lately they saw games like pubg and decided to make a robocraft Royale. What brought players to this game was an unique play style what we have now is a generic ripoff of other games.Probably one of the worst downward spirals I've seen a game take.
